Union Glacier at last!
After days of delays the departure could not have been any smoother or quicker. Just over four hours of flying in a huge converted Ilyushin jet brought us safely to the blue ice runway at Union Glacier. 
A balmy minus 9 deg C, virtually no wind and bright sunshine greeted my first steps in Antarctica and the place is absolutely stunning. It is beyond all of my expectations and had to pinch myself that I was finally here. 
A short journey in a snowcat brought us to the Union Glacier camp followed by a quick tour and I was soon reunited with all my food and kit. Tent pitched, followed by a great meal in the large mess dome and a beer! 
Plan is to get all the mandatory briefs and checks done on Sunday then a test pull of my new pulk on Monday and providing all ok looking at flying to Hercules Inlet to start on Tuesday weather permitting. 
Now to try and get some sleep in the 24 hour daylight….. Sorry if the photos are a bit small, they become too grainy when they are resized.
